Susan Mergens (it rhymes with Jergens, not surgeons) teaches Kindergarten at Team Success. She has a BS in education from the University of South Florida (Go Bulls!). This is her first year here at Team Success and her fifth year of teaching. She is thrilled to be part of such a great team of teachers! She loves watching the youngest of our students obtain new, independent skills and to begin to think for themselves. A passionate proponent of the power of literacy, she believes every child can achieve a year’s academic growth in a year’s time with an appropriate support system, proper environment and lots of encouragement.
Born in Stuttgart, Germany, Mrs. Mergens came to Florida via Colorado and Minnesota. Mrs. Mergens has been an activist for human rights most of her life, beginning with the Civil Rights Movement. She once slept on the street (with a lot of other people) in downtown Tampa to call attention to the plight of child soldiers in Africa. She enjoys reading good fiction, loves the movies and live theatre, is very much an outdoor person and feels more at home under water in SCUBA gear than she does on dry land. She still goes to rock concerts. Mrs. Mergens adores animals and has two rescued Irish Setters. She married her high school beau, has two grown children and five grandchildren.
